Perfect Start to the Season!

10/29/2012

The 2012-2013 season has finally arrived! The TarWheels braved the storm of Hurricane Sandy and left out for Virginia Beach, VA on Friday October 26th. With the storm on the way, a broken down team van was all we needed. Luckily things seemed to fall perfectly in place and both the idler pulley and serpentine belt were changed on the side of I-85 in only one hours time!

Saturday morning our first game of the season was against Philadelphia Magee 76ers! The last time The TarWheels had seen the 76ers was one year ago however the 76ers were ranked in a division above the TarWheels and left the TarWheels with a loss of 15 points. This season the 76ers are back in the same division as The TarWheels, and this battle went the way of the Concord, NC team! After a very slow start to the game, the TarWheels went on a strong run and managed to hold out for a victory. The final score was TarWheels 40 - Magee 34.

The same afternoon, the winds and rain were picking up outside, but The TarWheels were now ready to play their pace of game inside the gym! The TarWheels beat The Rimriders twice last year and would go on to continue that streak with another win! Final score:
TarWheels 55 - Richmond 38.

Just as we were about to head back to the hotel from the gym it was announced that the facility hosting the tournament would be closed for Hurricane Sandy. The games against the Virginia Beach Sunwheelers and the NRH Ambassadors were canceled for Sunday. A 2-0 record was a good start, and The TarWheels look to improve on that this Saturday, November 3rd at home against Spartanburg!
